Redundant Dual Deploy Success (March 2025)

In preparation for a 10,000' attempt in the future, trying redundant dual deploy. I went with two different brands of alimeters to keep the systems truly redundant.

I launched with a J425R which achieved around 3300'. The electronics worked great, but I did suffer damage on one fin on landing. Note: Using a pull pin rocks!

5000' Attempt Failure (March 2025)

Apogee Katana

My previous 5000' attempt with a J450 fell short by only reaching 4200'. This attempt used a K805 for an estimated 6300' (so hopefully at least 5000' real).

The result was a RUD after 1.5 secs at around 2500'. I think I need to go with a smaller diameter rocket with less motor, or look into fiberglass if I want to try with a K or L.

GPS Tracking Success (June 2024)

Apogee Zephyr
Featherweight GPS Tracker

Utilized a Zephyr with an H100 motor for a low height test of the GSP tracker. Attached the tracker to the shock cord since there's no e-bay.

It was a succesful test with full telemetry; and we tracked down the rocket by foot using only the app for guidance.

Dual Deploy Success (February 2024)

Apogee Katana
Altus Metrum EasyMini

The first flight resulted in a tree landing when the main deployed too early. This was found to be due to the nose cone coming off, not the dual deploy setup.

Installed a couple more sheer pins in the nose cone to make it harder to break free. The result was a successful dual deploy launch.

Dual Deploy Testing (July 2023)

Apogee Katana
Altus Metrum EasyMini

Successfully ground tested my first dual deploy build. The 1.75g apogee charge seemed good, but the 1.50g main charge felt a little hot. I may see about running a little less for the actual launch.

Level 2 Certification (April 2023)

Apogee Peregrine
Aerotech J420 RMS

The first flight was unsuccessful due to the Jolly Logic not releasing the parachute. Until this point, we never had any issues.

Installed a new motor, reset the Jolly Logic, and the second flight was successful.

Level 1 Certification (July 2022)

Apogee Zephyr
Aerotech H100 DMS

The first flight was unsuccessful due to a lack of parachute deployment. There was no chute release; the parachute just got tangled up.

After getting some advice from others on better ways to prepare the parachute, the second flight was successful.
